WINDCATCHER X-Air Gets a Boost!

Following the success of the WINDCATCHER X-Air which is the next generation of our natural ventilation systems, we have now added the SOLA-BOOST technology to this range of natural ventilation systems and this product is proving just as popular.  The SOLA-BOOST X-Air has the same features as the original GRP SOLA-BOOST systems that allow them to provide additional ventilation performance during sunny conditions.

Monodraught Shortlisted for the CIBSE Building Performance Awards

CIBSE Building AwardsMonodraught are delighted that their COOL-PHASE® low energy cooling and ventilation system has been shortlisted for a CIBSE Building Performance Award under the energy-using product category.  The category is classified as building services products that use delivered energy themselves (however efficiently in themselves or in comparison to previous products of the same type) in order, for example, to deliver heating, ventilation, cooling or lighting.  The Awards ceremony will be held at London’s Grosvenor House in February 2012 and we look forward to a great result for COOL-PHASE.

Another Top Mark for Monodraught

Monodraught are pleased to announce that their WINDCATCHER X-Air® and SUNPIPE® systems have been awarded a CE Mark.  This is a manufacturer’s declaration that the product complies with the essential health & safety requirements of the relevant Article 100A, European health, safety and environmental protection legislation, also known as Product Directives.

My Sustainability and Other Innovations

Greald Durrell ZooWith the help of Monodraught’s SUNPIPE® natural daylight systems and WINDCATCHER® natural ventilation systems, the new Visitor Centre at the Durrell Wildlife Park, which was officially opened in May 2011 by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, has won two important architectural awards.

The centre is based at the conservation charity’s headquarters in Trinity, Jersey.  The impressive new development was voted ‘Jersey’s Best innovative and/or Sustainable Design of 2011’, and it also topped the category of ‘Project with the best Landscape Architecture’. Some of the existing Visitor Centre has been incorporated into the new design and more than 70% of the materials were recycled where sections of the centre were demolished.

SUNPIPES were introduced to provide natural daylighting and WINDCATCHERS have been installed in the roof to assist with natural ventilation, all this in line with Durrell’s sustainability ethos.  The main contractor was locally-based Camerons, the structural engineers were Rothwells and the M&E engineers were Jersey Energy.

3R’s – Refurb Rethink Retrofit….

3R's - Refurb Rethink Retrofit….and you thought they were reading, writing & arithmetic!

Our Technical Director, Nick Hopper, attended the Architects’ Journal 3R Awards last week at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London to present the Award for the ‘Public Sector – Education Building’ category which Monodraught sponsored.

Nick was pleased to hand the accolade to Cottrell & Vermeulen Architecture for the Westborough Primary School Zero Carbon refurbishment project in front of the table of guests that Monodraught had invited to the ceremony.  Monodraught had been shortlisted for the ‘Product Innovation’ category and would have loved to have taken home the Award but unfortunately, we didn’t win and congratulations to Knauf Insulation who took the prize.

COOL-PHASE Case Study

Notre Dame COOL-PHASE Case StudyMonodraught have recently carried out a case study on the application of our COOL-PHASE® low energy cooling and ventilation systems on the Notre Dame RC Girls’ School in Southwark, London.  This was a School that previously suffered from overheating problems until the solution was found with COOL-PHASE.  The improvement in indoor air quality and temperature results are very good indeed. Click the button below to read more about this particular project, or alternatively email marketing@monodraught.com and we would be pleased to send you a copy.

Sustainable Product of the Year – Highly Commended

Monodraught’s WINDCATCHER® X-Air system was awarded a ‘Highly Commended’ status at the recent HVR Awards for the Sustainable product of the Year category. There was tough competition in all of the categories and although the WINDCATCHER X-Air  system did not win the category outright Monodraught are still very pleased to be ‘Highly Commended’ as this shows the impact that the WINDCATCHER X-Air system has made since its launch in 2010.

Monodraught Building Simulation Is Put on the Map

Monodraught on GoogleMonodraught’s design teams use 3D building simulation to determine the performance of our low energy products such as our WINDCATCHER® natural ventilation systems to accurately work out the ventilations paths and ensure that the predicted internal comfort conditions comply with guidelines, legislation and BREEAM initiatives.

We also use 3D building simulation for our SUNPIPE® natural daylight systems to review the internal daylight factors available again to satisfy legislation and BREEAM initiatives.

To demonstrate our commitment to building simulation we have released our own headquarters building available within Google Earth. Our HQ at Halifax House in High Wycombe is complete with our WINDCATCHER and SUNPIPE products incorporated to allow Architects and Consultants to see our products in use.
